A School Year on Wheels
Ever dream of living on the road and exploring national parks for months at a time? One Minnesota family uprooted their lives for a year-long adventure, building a curriculum for their twin daughters’ education at public lands around the country. How did they do it? Our latest podcast explores the joys and challenges of “roadschooling.”

Welcome!
We are a family of four traveling and roadschooling our kids full-time for a year.

Well, hello! Welcome to our adventures. We are Jen, Travis, Aela, and Eva. We call St. Paul, Minnesota our home, but we are currently on the road full-time, exploring and learning across our gorgeous country.
Jen is a former high school English teacher and is currently an education consultant. She is working part-time from the road and is in charge of roadschooling our girls through place-based and experiential learning.
Travis is an architect and is working from the road. He is also an avid bushcrafter who always travels prepared for anything.
A and E are in fourth grade. We are taking advantage of the Every Kid Outdoors, a program that gives our nation’s 4th graders and their families free access to all federal parks, lands, and waters.

Why "The Big Fun RV?"
Aela and Eva named our RV during a lazy summer afternoon play session. They pulled out their old pop-up "camper" and set it up in the yard. Filled it with pillows and stuffies, snacks, and drinks. Finally, they added a sign and viola, our name was born!
